Leon Foundation Presents Giacomo Fiore for its August 12 Fundraiser

Our August Fundraiser is coming up on Sunday, August 12, 2012. It will be from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. It's an honor to have GIACOMO FIORE a superb classical and fingerstyle guitarist performing for us that day. We hope to see all of you.  Thank you very much for all of your donations. In these times of economic challenges, we know it is a sacrifice to give. Funds that are raised through these efforts go directly to low income schools in Peru initiative that supports children education through technology.

GIACOMO FIORE
A graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory and Belmont University, Italian guitarist Giacomo Fiore has presented eclectic programs to audiences across the U.S., as well as in Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, and Italy. Highlights include the Healdsburg, Sarzana, and Cervo Guitar Festivals; series such as Trinity Chamber, BluePrint, Old First, and Mills Music Now and performing as a soloist with the UCSC Symphony. An ardent advocate of new and contemporary music, Giacomo has given world premieres of works by Ron Nagorcka and Larry Polansky.
Fiore’s third recording is entitled “Colors: Modern Music for Guitar” and includes works by Britten, Harrison, Takemitsu, and Tippett. Previous releases include "Genteel" (2009), a selection of classical, popular, and worldmusic pieces showcasing the various formative influences in his career, and "Tones from an Open Heart" (2005), which features original instrumental compositions.
Today Giacomo is continuing his musical explorations as a Ph.D. candidate in Musicology at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he focuses on the development of alternative guitar repertoires in just and microtonal tunings.
He has presented at regional and national conferences of the American Musicological Society and the Society for American Music; his article on the genesis and legacy of Lou Harrison’s last piece, Scenes from Nek Chand, is due for publication in the Journal of the Society for American Music in 2012.

“Each of the works on this program presented its own set of challenges, and Fiore was clearly up to all of them. He performed with a very unassuming style, always focused entirely on his instrument, always sensitive that each note sound (and resound) with just the right intonation.” S.F. Examiner

“Giacomo Fiore is an imaginative and accomplished guitar player who is comfortable in a wide variety of styles. His music making has both flair and depth.” David Tanenbaum

“His solo contribution is without a doubt and easily the strongest of the evening…sensual are his melodies, beauty over virtuosity, and that’s certainly the strongest point of this young guitarist who’s just on his way, certainly not at the end of his musical journey.” Kieler Nachrichten
